AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Flagler College women's soccer team was picked to finish third in the Peach Belt Conference's Preseason Coaches' Poll according to a release from conference officials this morning (Aug. 26). Paige Churchill and Carrie Consolino were selected to the preseason all-conference team.

The Saints received one first place vote and tallied 86 points. Flagler finished with an 8-4-6 overall record last year and posted a 4-2-3 mark in the PBC, which was good for a third-place finish.

Columbus State University, ranked No. 2 in the country, were picked as the preseason favorites thanks to eight first-place votes and 97 points. The Lady Cougars won the regular and post-season titles last year. The University of North Georgia, ranked No. 12, follows Columbus State. The Nighthawks received two first-place votes and tallied 90 points.  

Following Flagler was Lander University (69 points), Georgia College & State University (63), Clayton State University (56), Georgia Southwestern State University (45), USC Beaufort (37), USC Aiken (27), Middle Georgia State University (25), and Albany State University (10).
 
The Saints return 13 letter winners from last year's club, including eight starters. Among the returnees is two-time All-PBC selection Paige Churchill. The junior forward from Tallahassee, Florida scored nine goals and tallied eight assists for 26 points, the top returning scorer for head coach Ashley Martin. Carrie Consolino, a senior transfer from Clayton State University, earned first team all-conference honors last year and was named to the United Soccer Coaches and D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams. Her 19 goals ranked second in the PBC, and the nation, trailing only Flagler's Andrea Fernandez. She added four assists for a total of 42 points.
 
Flagler opens the season at No. 7 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Preseason Top 25) University of West Florida in Pensacola on Sept. 4 at 1 p.m. (Central). The home opener is Sept. 10 against Eckerd College at 6 p.m.
