Coaching at Flagler
Ashley Martin begins his 12th season as the head coach of the women's soccer team. He holds a 128-46-28 overall record. Martin was named the seventh head women's soccer coach at Flagler College on Jan. 17, 2014.  He previously served two years as the assistant men's soccer coach at Flagler.

Martin has coached the Saints to the NCAA Division II final four, a NCAA Division II Southeast Regional title, and to four consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament titles, including regular season titles in 2019 and 2020. He has led the team to eight consecutive seasons with a winning overall record and five NCAA Division II Tournament appearances.

In 2024, the Saints posted an 8-6-4 overall record and went 4-2-3 in the Peach Belt Conference. Andrea Fernandez added to her long list of awards as she was selected as the D2CCA National Player of the Year. She was one of two Flagler players to be named to the D2CCA All-Southeast Region teams and was one of three seleted to the United Soccer Coaches All-Southeast Region teams. Fernandez was the first player in the PBC's history to be named the offensive player of the year four years in a row. Cisel Akguel received freshman of the year honors in the PBC while five were named to the all-conference teams. Three more players earned academic all-district honors and four took home academic all-conference accolades.  

He guided the Saints to its sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance (excluding the COVID year) in 2023. Under Martin's leadership, five players earned academic all-conference honors and four earned academic all-district. He coached four players to all-conference accolades, including Andrea Fernandez being named the league's offensive player of the year for the third time in a row. 

He reached the 100-win milestone on Sept. 24, 2022 when the Saints rolled to a 3-0 win over Georgia College & State University in a match played at Milledgeville. Flagler defeated then No. 3 Columbus State University 1-0 to win its fourth consecutive conference tournament title. There were six players selected to the All-PBC teams and Andrea Fernandez took home PBC Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second year in a row and won the Select Gold Ball Award, which recognizes the league's top goal scorer in conference games only. Fernandez also received D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year accolades. Eight players earned academic all-conference honors. Flagler advanced to the third round of the NCAA Division II National Tournament.  

The Saints won the PBC Tournament title for the third year in a row in 2021. Flagler defeated then-No. 7 Columbus State University 5-3 and then won the first two matches in the NCAA Division II National Tournament before losing in a shootout in the third round. Andrea Fernandez and Annie Habeeb earned All-America honors. Fernandez was the D2CCA Southeast Region Player of the Year and swept the Peach Belt Conference awards as she was named the Player of the Year, the Freshman of the Year, and she received the Select Sport Gold Ball for the most goals scored in league play. Habeeb earned CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors. Eight Saints were selected to the all-conference teams and 16 earned academic all-conference honors. Flagler finished fourth in the nation in points per game (8.95), fifth in assists per game (2.48) and total points (188), sixth in total goals (68), and eighth in total assists (52).

Flagler was able to get the 2020 season after having the fall season put on hold, and then played the traditional year in the spring. The Saints played an unbeaten season (8-0-2), a first in the history of the athletics program at Flagler. Martin won his second consecutive, and third overall, PBC Coach of the Year honor as the Saints captured both titles (regular and postseason). Star goalkeeper Sarah-Lisa Dubel was selected as the co-player of the year in the PBC and was joined by seven of her teammates on the all-conference team. Dubel also took home PBC Tournament MVP honors for the second consecutive year after the Saints won the title on penalty kicks. Sara Sandberg, Dubel, and Annie Habeeb received CoSIDA All-America® honors. Sandberg was the second consecutive player to be named Academic All-America of the Year for women's soccer.

The 2019 season was one to remember. Flagler posted a 23-1-1 overall record and went 10-0-1 in conference play. The team broke program records for wins in a season as well as conference victories. The Saints finished with a No. 3 ranking. Sara Sandberg, Charlene Nowotny, and Josefine Nilsen were named to All-America teams while Sandberg and Nowotny took home CoSIDA All-America® honors. Nowotny was selected as the Academic All-America of the Year for women's soccer. Sarah-Lisa Dubel, Sandberg, Nowotny, and Annie Habeeb receive all-region honors. Seven Saints earned all-conference honors with Sandberg being selected as the player of the year and Nilsen was the freshman of the year. Martin was picked as the PBC's Coach of the Year. The coaching staff was selected as the United Soccer Coaches Southeast Region Staff of the Year.

Flagler had a strong showing in 2018 with a 12-4-2 overall mark and a 7-2-1 record in the Peach Belt Conference. The Saints had five representatives on the all-conference team for the second year in a row. The four first-team selections were the most in Flagler's history in the PBC. Sara Sandberg, Charlene Nowotny, Shannon Matthaei, and Sarah-Lisa Dubel were selected to the first-team while Annie Breen took home second-team accolades. SAndberg, Nowotny, Matthaei, and Breen earned all-region honors.

The Saints posted a 16-3-2 overall record and went 7-1-2 in the Peach Belt in 2017. Flagler qualified for its first NCAA Division II Tournament and it defeated Limestone College 3-0 in a first round match at Columbus, Georgia. The Saints were ranked as high as No. 5 in the nation before finally settling for No. 20 in the final poll. He was selected as the PBC's Co-Coach of the Year (2017).  

Charlene Nowotny earned first-team All-America honors after scoring 16 goals and tallying eight assists for 40 points. She is the first first-team All-American since Flagler moved to NCAA Division II in 2009. Five Saints earned all-conference honors led by Nowotny's first-team selection. Fio Fustagno, Abby Austin, Katie Reed and Sarah-Lisa Dubel were named to the second-team.

Prior to Flagler
Martin spent the four previous years (2008-11) as the women’s assistant soccer coach at Slippery Rock University. He helped coach The Rock to an overall record of 54-20-11 and the team made consecutive NCAA Division II National Tournament appearances in 2010 and 2011. Martin was an assistant women’s soccer coach at Flagler in 2007.

Martin also served as an assistant girls’ soccer coach at nearby St. Joseph Academy from 2004-07 and was the assistant boys’ coach in 2003-04.

He lettered all four years in soccer at Flagler and helped lead the 2003 team to the NAIA Region XIV finals. A defender, he played in 50 matches and scored four goals with two assists for a total of 10 points. He had a game-winning goal as a junior in a match against St. Xavier.

Personal
Martin and his wife, the former Yvette Rodriguez '07, currently reside in St. Augustine with their daughters Daniela and Lucia. Martin received his bachelor's in history from Flagler in 2007 and earned a Master's in teaching from the National University in San Diego, Calif. 

Martin, a native of Solihull, England, holds the following certifications: NSCAA Premier Diploma, English FA Coaching Certificate Level 1 & 2 and English FA Basic Treatment and Rehabilitation of Injury Certificate.
