BOULDER CITY, Nev. – The No. 3 (SCOREBOARD Division II ranking by clippd) Flagler College women's golf team edged No. 11 West Texas A&M University 3-2 in the NCAA Division II National Tournament medal match play quarterfinal round this morning at the Boulder Creek Golf Club's Desert Hawk Coyote Run course.
Flagler advances to the semifinal round and will face No. 20 University of Central Missouri at 1:50 p.m. (PDT). The winner heads to the NCAA Division II National Championship Match tomorrow.
The pairings for the quarterfinals will be Seed #1 versus Seed #8; Seed #2 versus Seed #7; Seed #3 versus Seed #6 and Seed #4 versus Seed #5, competing in medal play aka medal match play (stroke play over 18 holes and low score wins). Each team match will consist of five points, with one point being awarded for each individual match, or in the case of a tied matched, two half-points. Winning teams will advance to semifinals and subsequently, the finals. Each individual match will be played to its completion and the first team to win three points within the team match will advance, or in the case of the final match, be declared the national champion. In the event that a team match is tied after all five individual matches, the total strokes of the five players from each team will be calculated with the winning team having the fewest strokes. If still tied, during the quarterfinals and semifinals, the match(es) that are tied will play a sudden-victory hole to determine the advancing team. If still tied after sudden-victory hole, the match(es) will continue playing until a winner is determined. During the championship medal match aka medal match play, all five players will play a sudden-victory play off hole with the low four scores counting to determine the winner. Should a team compete with fewer than five participants, the tie breaker will be awarded to the team posting the highest number of official scores.
