ST. AUGUSTINE – The Flagler College men's golf team learned Friday that they received one the at-large berths to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional, which will be played at the Misson Resort and Club at Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida, May 8-10.
This will be Flagler's first regional appearance as a team since 2019 and eighth overall.
The Saints are seeded ninth in the southeast. The University of North Georgia is the top seed and is followed by South Atlantic Conference champion, Lincoln Memorial University. Three Peach Belt Conference members occupy seeds 3-5. Georgia Southwestern State University, USC Aiken (PBC champion), and Columbus State University are those three teams. Wingate University is No. 6 while Lander University is No. 7. Lenoir-Rhyne University checks in at No. 8 and Barton College, the Conference Carolinas champion, rounds out the field at No. 10.
Four individuals have advanced to the regional. Asmund Norum of King University, Laurenz Meifels of Erskine College, and Simon Wright and Jamie Markwick of Anderson University will compete,
The regional is paired with the teams from the south region. Gulf South Conference champion University of Werst Florida received the top seed. Lee University followed as the second seed. Sunshine State Conference champ Florida Southern College is third while Rollins College is fourth. Nova Southeastern University, Barry University, Saint Leo University, Palm Beach Atlantic University, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, and Spring Hill College (Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champs) round out the field.
The four individuals playing in the regional are Eric Boutwell, University of Montevallo, Gray Campbell of Union University, Reggie Fear of Eckerd College, and Chase Long of Valdosta State University.
At a minimum, the top three teams and the top two student-athletes not with a team from each regional will advance to the finals, May 19-23 at PGA National Resort in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. The remaining eight team berths will be allocated based on the regions represented in the prior year's head-to-head medal play portion of the championships, with the maximum number of teams from a given region capped at seven. The finals will be hosted by Palm Beach Atlantic and the Palm Beach County Sports Commission.
