Saints triumph on "Senior Day" caps regular season

Box Score ST. AUGUSTINE - The No. 4 (ITA Division II Top 50) ranked Flagler College men's tennis team ended their regular season on a seven match win streak, as they defeated Palm Beach Atlantic University 7-0 this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.

Two Saints were recognized at the conclusion of the doubles matches, for the annual senior day ceremony. Baptiste Mercier and Makary Adamek were honored as they were recognized for their contributions they have made to the program. 

With this win, the Saints head into the postseason with a 17-2 record overall, while PBA drops to 4-16. Next week the Saints will travel to Columbus State University to compete in the Peach Belt Conference Championship. The tournament begins on April 25 and will conclude on April 27.

The sweep began on the doubles courts as the Saints played to clinch. Before the stoppage, Adamek and Filip Kana were ahead, 5-2, against Kylian Coiteux and Matthew Young. The first win of the day came from No. 40 Ilian Borlee and Simon Malis against Juanfer Contreras and Luis Eduardo Platas, 6-2. To send the match into singles, Mercier and Aly El Rafie put up a 6-2 score against Noah Muyale and Saidakbar Kamalov.

Leading the charge in singles, was No. 37 Mercier and Adamek. Against Eduardo Palatas, Mercier defeated the Sailfish in two 6-1 sets. Finishing next, Adamek took down Marko Visontai 6-1 and 6-3. To seal the match, Borlee defeated Contreras 6-3 and 6-4. Continuing their play, Kana put up a 6-1 and 6-4 match against Imani Beharry. No. 27 Malis made a triumphant comeback against Milan Visontai. Playing a super tiebreak, Malis took set two 7-5 then won the tiebreak 1-0 (10-8). In the final match of the day, El Rafie won against Alejandro Rol Franco in two 6-3 sets.
