ST. AUGUSTINE - The No. 3 (ITA Division II Top 50) ranked Flagler College men's tennis team defeated their 12th ranked opponent of the season, No. 38 Lynn University, 7-0 yesterday at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints improved to 15-2 on the season while Lynn dropped to 8-6. The Saints will return to the court next week where they will host Peach Belt Conference opponent, Augusta University on Thursday, April 17 at 2 p.m.
In the three doubles matches, the Saints played to clinch. Prior to the stoppage,
Makary Adamek and
Filip Kana were tied 4-4 against Alessio Demichelis and Davide Cortimiglia. No. 30
Ilian Borlee and
Simon Malis had the first win of the day, 6-1, against Aymen Alimoussa and Santino Morel. The clinching win came from
Baptiste Mercier and
Aly El Rafie against Lennart Ostheimer and Smaran Rangarajan, 6-2.
To start off singles play, No. 27 Malis defeated Morel in two sets of 6-4. The two lowest scoring matches came from No. 39 Mercier and El Rafie. To put the Saints up 3-0, Mercier defeated Demichelis 6-2 in both sets. El Rafie took the clinching match 6-2 and 6-2 against Rangajaran. Playing through the rest of their matches, Adamek defeated Ostheimer 6-2 and 6-4. The final two set win came from Kana where he defeated Cortimiglia 6-2 and 7-5. For the final win of the match, Borlee defeated Alimoussa 6-4 in set one then 6-4 again in set three.
