ST. AUGUSTINE –
Jordan Moss socked a grand slam in Flagler College's seven-run third inning in route to an 11-4 victory over Lander University in a Peach Belt Conference softball game Sunday afternoon.
Flagler improved to 28-14 overall and 11-7 in the Peach Belt. Lander dropped to 20-20 overall and 8-10 in conference play. The Saints host their final non-conference doubleheader of the season on Wednesday against Saint Leo University at 2 p.m. at Flagler Field.
Going into the bottom of the third, Flagler trailed 2-1.
Sydney Stewart led off with a single through the left side of the infield and
Emily Ricci followed by reaching first after being hit by a pitch.
Hannah Smith's single down the left field line loaded the bases.
Kiley McQuillan and
Reese Snipes sandwiched RBI singles around a fielder's choice that produced a run, and the Saints led 4-2. A walk loaded the bases and Moss hit her grand slam down the left field line to increase the lead to 8-2. The Saints sent 11 batters to the plate and scored seven runs on six hits.
Kiersten James added a three-run home run in the fourth inning for the Saints.
Rachel Hester (5-3) earned the win in relief for Flagler. She tossed 3.2 scoreless innings and allowed two hits with two strikeouts.
Alyssa Hunter started and allowed four runs (three earned) on six hits in 3.1 innings.
Stewart, Ricci, and Smith each finished with a pair of singles and scored a run. Snipes hit two singles, scored three runs, and had one run batted in. Knier collected a pair of singles, scored two runs, and drove in another.
Paige Sherman (4-4) took the loss in the circle for the Bearcats. She surrendered six runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
Kara Vonachen collected two singles and scored a run. Reagan Hill added a pair of singles. Emily Allen belted a two-run home run to center field in the fourth inning.
