El Rafie's win leads No. 3 Saints over No. 25 Bearcats

Box Score GREENWOOD, S.C. - The match came down to No. 6 singles Aly El Rafie came through with a 7-6(6) and 6-3 win as No. 3 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College downed No. 25 Lander University Saturday afternoon 4-3 in a Peach Blt Conference men's tennis match at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Flagler improved to 12-2 overall and 2-0 in the Peach Belt. Lander had its five-match winning streak snapped and dropped to 11-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Saints will be back at home on Friday to take on Georgia College & State University at the Pollard Tennis Center at 2 p.m.

The Saints won all three doubles matches to start the day and secure the team point. No. 28 Simon Malis and Ilian Borlee had a back and fourth match, with the pair coming out on top 7-6(6) against Harry Pugh and Brendan Jayaprakash. Makary Adamek and Filip Kana had the best match of the three wins for the Saints, defeating Markus Sorenson and Max Barriere 6-2. Baptiste Mercier and Aly El Rafie had a strong match as well, over taking Benjamin Bates and Ludvig Danielsson 6-3.

Despite some set backs, the Saints pulled in a strong three wins to set themselves over the Bearcats. The first win of singles came from Borlee who defeated Julian Peter 6-3 and 6-0. To set themselves in a position to win, Kana took down Naoui 6-3 and 6-1. Flagler led 3-1 after that match. The Bearcats won the next two singles matches to tie the team score at 3-all, but El Rafie took the final match of the day defeating Jayaprakash.

The Saints will come back home on April 4, where they will face conference opponent Georgia College State University at 10 A.M.
