ST. AUGUSTINE - No. 2 (TA Division II Top 50) Flagler College got its third sweep in a row, taking down No. 33 University of Nebraska-Kearney 7-0 this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints are now on their ninth win in a row to set themselves up 10-1 on the season while the Lopers fell to 7-10. Flagler hosts Barry University on Sunday at 11 a.m.
Starting the day off in the win column, the Saints took two of the three doubles matches to put themselves up 1-0 on the Lopers. The first win came from
Makary Adamek and
Filip Kana against Aaron Osmond and Tom Van Den Dungen, 6-1. The clinching 6-2 win came from
Baptiste Mercier and
Aly El Rafie over Jip Mens and Andy Brisdon.
Singles play saw two crucial upsets for the Saints during their 6-0 sweep. Mecier, ranked No. 40, knocked off No. 38 Jip Mens with his 6-0 and 6-1 win. Adamek had a similar outcome over Van Den Dungen, out scoring him 6-0 and 6-1 as well. The final win to send the Saints over the Lopers was from Kana against Osmond in his 6-1 and 6-2 match. El Rafie took his two sets, 6-2, against Brisdon to put the Saints up 6-0.
Ilian Borlee got his get back against Ivan Melnik after defeating him 6-1 and 6-4. The final win came in a major upset from
Simon Malis against No. 61 Adrian Constatin in his 6-4 and 6-2 win.
