ST. AUGUSTINE - In their second meeting of the year, No. 2 (ITA Division II Top 50) Flagler College remained undefeated against No. 17 Saint Leo University after its 4-0 match this afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
The Saints improved to 8-1 on the season while sending the Lions dropped to 8-4. Flagler takes on Jefferson University tomorrow at 2 p.m. at the Pollard Tennis Center.
In doubles, the Saints and Lions have split one, wih the last matching going the distance in a tie break.
Simon Malis and
Ilian Borlee stepped up to the challenge and defeated No. 1 doubles team Eduardo Cohen and Luis Iriarte, 6-3. The doubles securing win came from
Makary Adamek and
Filip Kana over Vincent Thiel and Dylan Adrianaly. The pairs went into a 6-6 tie break with the Saints prevailing 7-6 after a long 11-9 set.
Borlee earned the first singles point for the Saints over Adrianaly with two 6-2 sets. Adamek stayed undefeated on the day, earning the Saints their second point with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Kodai Kato. The final win came from No. 40
Baptiste Mercier in three sets against Jose David Segovia. After taking the first, 6-2, Mercier sent the Lions home with a 6-4 finish.
In unfinished matches, all two of the three Saints were in their third set.
Aly El Rafie and Cohen exchanged 6-3, 6-4 sets with El Rafie up 2-1 in the third. Kana took set one 7-5 over Iriarte, and left unfinished, tied 4-4 in the second. Malis continued his arduous day, facing off against No. 7 Thiel, where he took the second set 6-4 to send the match into three sets.
