ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College finished in seventh place with a 15-over par 879 (294-283-302) at the Spring Kickoff Intercollegiate, which concluded this afternoon at the St. Johns Golf & Country Club.
The Saints excelled on the par fives with a 4.75 average score, which was third-best in the field. The team also had 43 birdies and that tied for fifth-best.
No. 7 (SCOREBOARD Division II Top 25) Lincoln Memorial University finished atop the 19-team field with a 14-under 850 (287-275-288). No. 23 Wingate University finished in tie for second place with No. 10 Columbus State a 9-under 855. No. 11 Georgia Southwestern State University finished in fourth place with a 2-over 866 (290-286-290). No. 25 Lander University placed fifth with a 3-over 867 (290-287-290). Six teams are ranked in the SCOREBOARD Division II Top 25.
Topping the 100-man field was Felipe Gomez of Georgia Southwestern who carded an 11-under 205 (69-69-67). He finished three strokes ahead of two golfers – George Durkan of Lincoln Memorial and Brandon Skidmore of Wingate.
Leading the way for Flagler was
Nic Eberhard. He finished in a 10-way tie for 17
th place with a 2-over 218 (74-72-72).
Rocco Randazzo finished in a tie for 40
th place with a 6-over 222 (72-72-78).
Joel Petersson was one-shot back and tied for 44
th place with a 7-over 223 (76-67-80). His second round 5-under 67 was his best round of the season. Petersson got an eagle on the par-5, 565-yard No. 8 hole in that second round.
Dylan Mason tied for 51
st place with a 9-over 225 (72-79-74).
Matthew French wrapped up the team with an 11-over 227 (77-72-78) and he finished in a tie for 60
th place.
Brian Berta played as an individual and he carded a 14-over 230 (79-74-77), good for a tie for 72
nd place.
Up next for the Saints is the World Golf Collegiate, Feb. 24-25, at the King & Bear Golf Course in St. Augustine.
