DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Flagler College's
Hoku Fisher scored a career high 22 points in a 63-60 win over Newberry College in the first game of the Bahama House Shootout Friday afternoon at the ICI Center.
Flagler improved to 7-4 overall while Newberry lost its third game in a row and fell to 5-6. The Saints wrap up the tournament tomorrow at 2 p.m. against the University of Fort Lauderdale.
Tymoteusz Pszczola sank a three-pointer with 4:14 left to go in the game to give Flagler a 61-53 lead. That was the last field goal the team would make. Newberry scored the next seven points to pull to within one, 61-60, after a Drake Downs layup with 1:27 remaining.
The Saints called a timeout with 1:05 to go in the game. Out of the timeout,
Tariq Daughton missed a layup, and Downs got the rebound with 49 seconds left, but Kayzzin McDowell turned the ball over. The Saints ran the clock down to six seconds remaining.
Mason Manning missed a jumper, but Daughton tipped the rebound out to the perimeter where Fisher grabbed the ball and drew the foul. He sank both free throws with one second on the clock.
Pszczola added 13 points and six rebounds for Flagler. Daughton finished with nine points and five boards.
Camden Andrews contributed five points, six rebounds, and six assists.
The Saints held the lead in the game for 38 minutes and 43 seconds.
Malakhi Stremlow led the Wolves with 14 points, and he grabbed eight rebounds. Downs finished with 13 points and seven boards while Drew Robinson tacked on 12 points.
