Saints win the conference tournament championship

ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College volleyball team defeated Lander University 3-2 (14-25, 25-16, 25-14, 18-25, 17-15) to win the Peach Belt Conference Tournament this afternoon at the Flagler Gymnasium.

Since joining the PBC in 2009, this is the sixth time that the Saints have won both the regular season and tournament titles in the same season. To cap off the regular and conference season, the Saints advance to 21-12 overall while the Bearcats drop to 20-10. In the four meetings thus far this season against Lander, Flagler tied the match up 2-2.

Marley Middlebrooks, Katherine Rank and Clare Sheedy were all selected as the PBC All-Tournament team. Middlebrooks was named tournament MVP.

Middlebrooks put together a career match and was one of three Saints to register a double double. Setting a new career high in digs, Middlebrooks found 18 while also setting a match and career high 25 kills. Cassidy Bloom tied Middlebrooks in digs with 18 while also finding 11 kills, This is Bloom's fifth double double this season. Sheedy was the last Saint to register one as she had a match high 53 assists and 13 digs. This is the first time since Oct. 3 against Middle Georgia State University and third time this season Sheedy had 50 or more assists.

Among the seven blocks the Saints had, Rank registered a career high five. Offensively, Rank found 13 kills. Bella Schwantz put up another match high in digs with 19 while Amelia Fitzpatrick found a season high 17.

The Bearcats were led by Katie MIller who found 23 kills and 13 digs. Enisilina Savelio led the team in assists with 32, digs with 18 and was two kills away from her third triple double against Flagler. Alyssa Tegeler, Karson Browning and Amelia May all found a team high four blocks.
