ST. AUGUSTINE - For the second consecutive year, the Flagler College volleyball team advanced to the Peach Belt Conference tournament championship this evening after defeating Georgia College & State University 3-0 (25-17, 25-22, 25-22).
Moving to 20-12 overall, this is the fourth time the Saints and Bobcats met this season with the Saints leading the series 4-0. The Bobcats end their season at .500 overall with a 16-16 record. Flagler will face Lander Universtiy tomorrow at 2 p.m. for the conference tournament title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Southeast Regional tournament.
A balanced attack of
Marley Middlebrooks,
Gracie Fleming,
Cassidy Bloom and
Katherine Rank pushed the Saints to victory. Middlebrooks registered a double double with 15 kills and 10 digs to lead the attack. Fleming had the highest hitting percentage of the match, hitting .500 on 12 kills. Fleming also registered two solo blocks. Rank boasted nine kills while Bloom registered eight.
Amelia Fitzpatrick,
Bella Schwantz, Bloom and Middlebrooks all found double digit digs. Fitzpatrick, Bloom and Schwantz each found 12.
Clare Sheedy continued to show why she earned setter of the year after finding a match high 40 assists and three aces.
The Bobcats were held to single digit kills, with their leading being Lexi Polychrones who had seven. Kaylee Weeks followed close behind with six. Riese Johnson and Sadie Parkerson both put up double digit assists with 10 and 13. In digs, Alanis Beris had a team high 14. The Bobcats did find success in blocks, as Camryn Carlton, Emerysn Millvain and Nya Warren each had a piece in two.
