ST. AUGUSTINE — Marley Smith recorded her fourth career double-double with 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to lead Flagler College to a 72-66 win over Anderson University in a Southeast Region Crossover women's basketball game Friday afternoon at Flagler Gym.
Flagler won its second season opener in a row as it defeated Anderson last year 83-71. Anderson dropped to 0-1. The Saints will play their next game tomorrow where they travel to face Shorter University at 3 p.m. Anderson takes on Clayton State University at 1 p.m.
Smith led five Saints in double-figure scoring.
Bre Jones made her collegiate debut and finished with 12 points, seven rebounds, and five assists.
Aspen Weeks and
Natalie Herrin each contributed 11 points while
Carleigh Grimm tacked on 10 points.
Ciara Harris led the Trojans with a game-high 19 points. Ashley Sheridan and Kyla Cain added 12 and 11 points, respectively. Cain was a rebound shy of a double-double with nine boards.
Anderson was limited to 37.9 percent shooting for the game, including a 34 percent mark in the second half alone.
