INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College volleyball team is ranked No. 5 in the second of three NCAA Division II Southeast Region rankings, which was released Wednesday afternoon.
Flagler (18-11 overall, 18-8 in-region record) is one of four Peach Belt Conference teams ranked in the top 10. Augusta University (22-7, 21-7) checks in at No. 6 while Lander University (17-8, 16-8) follows at No. 7. The University of South Carolina Aiken (14-13, 14-13) debuts at No. 9.
Wingate University (24-1, 24-0) tops the 10-team ranking. Lenoir-Rhyne University (19-5, 19-4) and Anderson University (19-5, 19-4) follow. Carson-Newman University (21-4, 18-4) is ranked No. 4. Francis Marion University (20-9, 20-8) is No. 8 and Converse University (20-7, 20-7) rounds out the ranking at No. 10
The Saints overall strength of schedule is .567, which is the best in the region. Flagler's region RPI is .584, which is sixth. The national tournament selection criteria are based on, in no particular order: in-region winning percentage, D2 winning percentage, D2 strength of schedule, D2 head-to-head competition, and results vs. common D2 opposition.
The NCAA regional rankings are the official rankings used by the committee to select the national tournament field. The field will be comprised of 64 teams, and the Southeast Region will have eight teams playing at the top seed. However, two more polls are to be announced until the official release of the 64-team field on Monday, Nov. 24 at 7:30 p.m. Eastern.
