COLUMBUS, Ga. – Skye Tumbelty's goal in the 23
rd minute was all that Columbus State University would need in a 2-0 win over Flagler College in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Columbus State improved to 5-4-1 overall and 3-1-0 in the Peach Belt. Flagler is now 3-4-2 overall and 1-3-1 in conference play. Up next for the Saints is Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Saints Field.
A corner kick by Sarah Hungerford that was punched by the Flagler keeper and then cleared out by a defender helped set up the goal. Hungerford got the ball on the left sideline and made a move around a defender. She threaded a through ball to Tumbelty near the top of the box. Tumbelty blasted a shot under the crossbar to give the Lady Cougars the lead.
Michelle Medina added an insurance goal in the 78
th minute.
Heidi Harris finished with four saves as she turned in a clean sheet.
Henley Grunst recorded a season high eight saves for the Saints.
Columbus State out-shot Flagler 20-8 and Medina led the way with five shots.
Ashley Wagner led the Saints with three. The Lady Cougars had 17 corner kicks and the Saints had one. Flagler committed eight fouls while Columbus State was whistled for five more.
