ST. AUGUSTINE - The Flagler College women's volleyball team moved into second place in the Peach Belt Conference standings after defeating the University of South Carolina Aiken this evening, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-23) in the Flagler Gymnasium.
The Saints dominated the Pacers in ever facet of the match as a team. For the sixth time this season, the Saints have scored points on 10 or more aces in a match. This is the second time the Saints have done this in three sets.
Amelia Fitzpatrick tied her season high four aces while also leading the team in digs with 12.
Offensively,
Clare Sheedy finished with a match high 33 assists.
Marley Middlebrooks led the assault with 14 kills while
Meredith Dixon had the highest hitting percentage with a .556 on five kills. Defensively, the Saints smothered the Pacers with 8 blocks. Middlebrooks,
Gracie Fleming and
Katherine Rank each finished with four. For the fourth time this season, the Saints defense held every individual opponent to single digit kills.
The Pacers were led by Kira Bostick who had a match high 14 digs while also notching one ace. Alli Bishop led the Pacers in kills with seven. Anna Sommer and Tucker Patterson both had two blocks for the Pacers.
The Saints will resume play against the Pacers tomorrow at 3 p.m. in the Flagler Gymnasium.
