ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - The Flagler College volleyball team pulled off the series sweep against the University of South Carolina Aiken this afternoon with a 3-0 (25-17, 25-23, 25-22) win.
The Saints moved to .500 overall on the season with the win. With a new overall record of 11-11 and Peach Belt Conference record of 5-2, the Saints move to second in the current conference standings. USC Aiken dropped to 10-10 overall and 3-4 in conference. The Saints will take to the road next week to face Georgia College State University on Oct. 24 and 25.
The Saints played a balanced match offensively and defensively. For the second straight match, Flagler's defense did not allow an individual Pacer to record double-digit kills.
Caity Clancy returned to rhythm as she led the Saints in digs with 18. This is the most digs Clancy has recorded since the Saints competed against Ashland University on Nov. 11, where she found 26.
Gracie Fleming tied the match high four blocks. With these, Fleming moved to third in the conference in total blocks with 57.
Marley Middlebrooks registered another double-double with her match high 14 kills and 12 digs. Middlebrooks also recorded three blocks.
Clare Sheedy had another match high 33 assists while also finding two aces. With
Amelia Fitzpatrick having a match high three aces, she is tied for fifth in the conference in total aces with 25.
Anna Sommer was the face of the Pacers offense and defense, setting a team high eight kills and four blocks. Sidney Hogan and Madison Fox both finished with a team high 10 assists while Kira Bostick finished with 13 digs.
