COCHRAN, Ga. –
Alex Alexandrou made a move around three defenders and scored the eventual game-winning goal as Flagler College defeated Middle Georgia State University 4-2 in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Nesmith Field.
Flagler extended its unbeaten streak to four matches and improved to 8-2-4 overall and 5-1-3 in the Peach Belt. Middle Georgia lost its fifth match in a row and dropped to 3-8-2 overall and 0-8-1 in conference play. The Saints won both matches this year. Flagler hosts Georgia Southwestern State University on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Saints Field.
Mitchell Claxton received a pass to set up Alexandrou's goal. Claxton's one-touch pas went to Alexandrou near the top left-corner of the penalty area. Alexandrou spun through two defenders, eluded a third, and buried a left-footed shot inside the right post.
Henry Okenla added a goal in the 86
th minute for insurance.
Luke Williams scored his fifth goal of the season to open up the scoring and
Finn Weigelt added another in the early stages of the second half.
Adrian Molitor and Rahjae Nelson scored for the Knights.
Ryan Rivas recorded a save for Flagler while Gracen Van Gilder had seven for Middle Georgia.
The Saints out-shot the Knights 21-8 and were led by
Hugues Iguaran with five and Okenla added four more shots. Each team had three corner kicks while Flagler had a slight 9-8 edge in fouls.
