GREENWOOD, S.C. – Katherine Haigler scored the lone goal of the match as Lander University defeated Flagler College 1-0 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Wednesday evening at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander won its fourth match in a row and improved to 6-1-1 overall and 3-0-0 in conference play. Flagler is now 3-3-2 overall this season and 1-2-1 in the Peach Belt. The Saints stay on the road and will face Columbus State University on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Walden Soccer Complex.
The goal came in the 64
th minute. Bearcat keeper Leah Hayes Cohen punted the ball down field where Darcy Ahern then headed the ball to Haigler. As she was sliding to get to the ball, Haigler got enough on her shot to slot the ball past the Flagler keeper.
Coen recorded four saves for the Bearcats and recorded a shutout.
Henley Grunst finished with four saves for the Saints.
Each team took 13 shots in the match as
Brooke Rienecker led Flagler with three and Rylee King led Lander with four. Each team had six corner kicks and the Saints had a slight 9-8 edge in fouls.
