GAINESVILLE - The Flagler College men's track & field team came out swinging for their season opener at the Jimmy Carnes Invitational this afternoon.
The men faced a multitude of Division I institutions such as Florida State University, the University of South Florida, and the University of Central Florida. Along with the Division I and NAIA competition, the team faced off against Division II schools such as Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University and Florida Tech.
Kruz Jimenez started the day off at field events where he finished 1th overall out of 40 in the long jump with his 6.42 meter jump. Among Division II competitors, Kruz took home fourth overall.
Jude Daly stood tall against his competition in the shot put, throwing 12.09 meters. This throw put him at 15th out of 32, and fourth among the Division II competitors.
The racing portion of the day began with the 60 meter hurdles where
Caden Vann took 13th of 34 with a time of 8.51 While freshman
Nate Watson led the Saints in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.14.
Houston Harper had himself a day in the 400 meter dash, taking 16 of 59 runners. His time of 50.46 put him in second among all Division II runners.Â
Malachi South ran a 22.62 in the 200 meter dash, placing him 22nd out of 78 runners.
The last race of the day came at the 4x400 meter race. The squad of
Malik Edwards, Harper,
David Stanley and South ran 3:25.21 putting them eighth overall and first among the five competing Division II schools.
The men will hit the track again next weekend for the RADD Sports Invitational.
