ST. AUGUSTINE – Flagler College had five different goal scorers in a 5-1 triumph over Newberry College in a men's soccer non-conference match on a humid Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
The Saints won their season opener while the Wolves dropped to 0-2. Up next for Flagler is a match on Tuesday at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach.
Sam Reynolds scored the first goal of the season when he converted off
Andres Morral's missed header in the 20
th minute.
Just 2:34 later,
Gustav Moberg scored his first goal in the Crimson & Gold when he knocked in
Alex Alexandrou's free kick, and that proved to be the game-winning goal.
The Wolves got on the board with 3:40 left to go in the half.
In the 59
th minute,
Miles Shanley blasted a shot from about 20 yards out to give the Saints some breathing room.
Jackson Kirila assisted on that goal and he scored the final goal of the match.
Luke Williams scored a goal in the 83
rd minute.
Ryan Rivas tallied three saves for Flagler while Jacob Cotton recorded five for Newberry.
The Saints outshot the Wolves 20-10 and had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
