TURNING POINT
Flagler wasted no time jumping on the visiting Pacers as the Saints capitalized on their first set piece of the match.
Ella Gembicki sent the free kick into the box and found the head of
Anastasia Whitehouse, who then headed it over to
Brooke Rienecker. The senior standout sent a header over the Pacers goalkeeper and just under the crossbar to give Flagler an early 1-0 advantage.
As the first half winded down, Flagler struck again in the 40
th minute off a corner kick. Freshman
Ava Scott sent a cross into the box and found
Brooke Rienecker wide open at the back post. With the back of the net wide open, Rienecker sent home her second header of the game to push the Saints forward 2-0.
USCA amped up their pressure in the second half, outshooting the Saints 10-3 over the final 45 minutes. The pressure proved key as Greta Ohlwein sent a through ball towards the box and found Ruby Scott in stride. Scott one-touched a pass across the box and found Samantha Koneval who snuck home the goal to the left corner. Despite the amplified pressure, the Flagler backline stayed poised and kept the Pacers off the board for the remaining 32 minutes of action to claim the 2-1 victory.
