Flagler sweeps Belmont Abbey to close Flagler Saints Classic

Box Score ST AUGUSTINE - Molly Boyd led a balanced offensive attack with eight kills and added eight total blocks to help Flagler College sweep Belmont Abbey College (25-19, 25-16, 25-20) in the Flagler Saints Classic Saturday evening at Flagler Gymnasium.

Flagler improved to 4-3 on the season while Belmont Abbey dropped to 1-7.

The Saints took the first set 25-19. They were able to capitalize on the Crusaders on multiple back-to-back point efforts. Boyd had five of her eight kills in the first set for the Saints and hit .571 with three total blocks.

Cassidy Bloom and Colby Stempkowski led the way for Flagler in the second set with four and three kills, respectively.  

The third and final set saw six ties and two lead changes. Clare Sheedy's kill started a five-point run that wiped out a one-point (14-13) Crusader lead. Meredith Dixon and Cecilia Robert both had four kills while Bloom added a pair of aces.

The Saints shared the love in the attack game with four players accounting for 27 kills. Bloom had a superb day as well with seven. Dixon and Stempkowski both finished with six kills and hit .500. Sheedy tallied 27 assists.

Lexi Basler kept the ball in the air for Flagler with 12 digs on the match. The net presence was unmatched for the Saints with 20 block assists. On top of Boyd's eight blocks, Sheedy and Dixon added four and three, respectively.

Tyler Case led Belmont Abbey with seven kills and 11 digs. Ella Schellenberg tallied 11 assists.

Flagler hits the road on Friday, Sept. 20 for a two-game day at Florida Tech. The first game will be against Barry University at 1 p.m. then with a game against the host team coming at 6 p.m.
