Flagler concludes regular season with a tie for eighth place at the Argonaut Invite

PENSACOLA, Fla. – Flagler College finished in a tie for eighth place with a 13-over par 877 (289-289-299) at the Argonaut Invitational, which wrapped up this afternoon at the Pensacola Country Club (par 72; 6,903 yards).

No. 4 Georgia Southwestern State University topped the 15-team field with a 16-under 848 (283-280-285). They won by six strokes lead over top-ranked University of North Georgia, who finished with a 10-under 854 (289-281-284). No. 5 Oklahoma Christian finished in third place with a 7-under 857 (278-291-288).  No. 17 University of West Florida followed in fourth place with a 3-under 861 and its "B" team came in fifth place with a 9-over 873. Nine of the 15 teams in the field are ranked in the top 25.

Finishing atop the 84-man field was Payne Sells of Georgia Southwestern. He carded a 9-under 207 (66-71-70) and held off Fabian Wennerlof of West Florida by two strokes. Wennerlof shot a 7-under 209 (68-71-70).     

Joel Petersson led the Flagler golfers with a 1-over 217 (72-71-74), which puts him in a tie for 22nd place. Tomas Cavanagh moved up nine spots thanks to his final round 72 and he finished the tourney with a 2-over 218 (73-73-72). He had two eagles in today's final round and had three in the tournament. Franco Piovano finished in a tie for 52nd place with an 8-over 224 (75-73-76). Piovano recorded an eagle on the par-5 12th hole in the first round. Roo Fenwick also tied for 52nd place with an 8-over 224 (71-76077). He had 36 pars in the tourney. Nic Eberhard finished in a tie for 66th place with a 9-over 225 (73-72-80) to round out the team.

Up next for the Saints is the Peach Belt Conference Championship, April 19-21, at the Forest Hills Golf Course in Augusta, Georgia. Flagler has won the league title three times with the last one coming in 2019.
