ST. AUGUSTINE –
Trace McDonald scored his third goal of the game with a little over two minutes left in overtime as Flagler College knocked off the University of Montevallo 14-13 in a Peach Belt Conference men's lacrosse finale Saturday afternoon at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
Flagler wrapped up the regular season with a 6-8 record and went 2-2 in the Peach Belt. The Saints earned the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. Montevallo had its three-game winning streak snapped and fell to 9-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play. Despite the loss, Montevallo is the No. 1 seed and will host the Peach Belt Conference Tournament May 3-5 at the Varsity Soccer Field. Montevallo will host Flagler in the first semifinal on May 3 at 4 p.m. (Central).
The game was close throughout with neither team holding a lead of more than two goals.
The Saints took a 13-12 lead after a
Geraint Shaw goal with 6:31 remaining in regulation. However, Matthew Boas scored the equalizer with 5:42 left to force the extra session.
McDonald added three assists to his three goals for the Saints.
Tyler Douglass scored a game-high four goals. Shaw and
Luke Burton each finished with two goals.
Nate Lehr allied 17 saves while
Matt Mitrega scooped up a game-high 10 groundballs.
Jacob Obee and Zach Laberge each scored three goals for the Falcons. Alex Egorshin recorded 11 saves while five different players had four groundballs apiece.
