No. 7 Flagler to open PBC Tourney against Georgia Southwestern

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 7 (ITA Division II rankings) Flagler College women's tennis team will open the Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Championship as the No. 2 seed and will face the No. 7 seed Georgia Southwestern State University in a first-round match. The match will take place Friday at 12 p.m. at the John W. Walden Tennis Center in Columbus, Georgia.

The Saints won their third conference championship, in the NCAA Division II era, after posting a 5-1 mark this spring. Flagler holds a 12-4 overall record.

Flagler won the match played 10 days ago (April 12) 7-0 at the Flagler Tennis Center. The Saints hold an 18-0 record in the series against Georgia Southwestern. The only postseason match between the two teams occurred last year with the Saints winning 4-0 in the PBC Tournament.

The Saints have two singles players raked nationally. Nadja Meier and Dana Heimen are at Nos. 2 and 70, respectively. Meier is 12-3 this spring while Heimen is 11-4. Meier and Heimen have played the entire season at Nos. 1 and 2. Charlotta Buss holds a 9-5 mark at No. 3 and Leonie Floeth is 7-6 at No. 4. Eryka Kruck has a perfect 12-0 record at No. 5 and Toni Pfeiffer is 6-1 at No. 6. 

Meier and Heimen are ranked No. 4 in doubles. They are 10-1 at No. 1 doubles. Buss and Floeth have posted a 4-1 mark at No. 2 doubles while No. 3 doubles have seen several different combinations.
 
Georgia Southwestern (3-10 overall, 0-6 PBC) has lost its last seven matches in a row.  

The winner of the match will take on the winner of the No. 3-seed Columbus State University vs. No. 6 seed Lander University on Friday at 12 p.m.

Flagler is 15-9 all-time in the PBC Championship since joining the league for the 2010 season. The Saints won the postseason tournament in 2021 and last year.

The winner of the tournament will earn receive the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

#4 GCSU vs. #5 Augusta, 9 a.m.
#2 Flagler vs. #7 Georgia Southwestern, 12 p.m.
#3 Columbus State vs. #6 Lander, 12 p.m.

Saturday, April 27
2/7 winner vs. 3/6 winner, 10 a.m.
#1North Georgia vs. 4/5 winner, 10 a.m.

Sunday, April 28
Semifinal winner, 10 a.m.
