Flagler wins sixth PBC title and Jelinek earns medalist honors

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 2-ranked (Scoreboard by clippd) Flagler College women's golf team won their sixth title (2010, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021) with a 25-over par 889 (297-291-301) at the Peach Belt Conference Championship, which concluded this afternoon at the Forest Hills Golf Club (par 72; 6,123 yards).

Flagler earns the PBC's automatic berth to the NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional. The field will be announced on April 29 and the regional will take place May 6-8 at Cleveland, Tennessee.

Stella Jelinek became the third Flagler golfer to earn medalist honors (Joanna Yoo in 2014 and Linn Weber in 2016). She was two shots back to start the day and finished with a 3-over 75. Jelinek finished the tournament with a 5-over 221 (75-71-75). She made her move on the front nine as she recorded eight pars. Sakrako Tanaka of Lander University, who won last year's tournament, had five bogeys on the front nine. Jelinek held a two-stroke lead going into the par-4 No. 18 hole. Tanaka finished with a birdie while Jelinek sank a par putt to win by one stroke. She finished the tourney with 39 pars and six birdies. This was Jelinek's fourth tournament title this year.  

Flagler's Jordyn Hodgson finished in a tie with Tanaka for second place with a 6-over 222 (74-74-74). Marine Legentil of Columbus State University and Flagler's Henriette Stranda tied for fourth place with a 7-over 223. The top five golfers, including ties, earned all-tournament honors.

No. 24 University of North Georgia finished in second place with a 36-over 900 (309-290-301). No. 20 Lander finished third with a 46-over 910 (304-303-303).

Flagler's Sophie Wheeler recorded her second top 10 finish this season as she tied for ninth place with an 11-over 227 (78-72-77). Shanya Arasu tied for 16th place with a 17-over 233 (74-78-81).
