ORLADNO, Fla. – No. 6 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College defeated No. 8 Wayne State University 4-1 in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the USTA National Tennis Center.
Flagler improved to 8-2 overall while Wayne State fell to 7-6. The Saints return to the Pollard Tennis Center where they will face Jefferson University on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
Flagler won the doubles point after the No. 30-ranked tandem in the country,
Ilian Borlee and
Baptiste Mercier, downed No. 5-ranked Dom Spicer and Luke Laws, 6-2. The point was wrapped up when
Philipp Lemken and
Simon Malis knocked off No. 4-ranked Daniel Grey and Cedric Denth, 6-4.
In singles play, No. 44 Lemken and No. 57
Simon Malis, along with Borlee, won their matches in straight sets. Borlee extended his winning streak to six matches. Malis has reeled off four consecutive victories.
