ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 2 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College cruised to a 7-0 win over Thomas Jefferson University in a non-conference men's tennis match Wednesday afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Flagler extended its winning streak to five and improved to 9-2 overall. Jefferson dropped to 4-4. The Saints will host No. 20 Midwestern State University on Saturday at noon.
The Saints swept through doubles with little trouble. No. 21-ranked
Ilian Borlee and
Baptiste Mercier defeated Mario Antonio and Johary Rabetrano, 6-3, to get things started.
Max Berner and
Jacopo Denitto topped Jules Thibault and Antonio Mateos Melenchon, 6-2, to clinch the doubles point. No. 28-ranked
Philipp Lemken and
Simon Malis won their match 6-2 for the clean sweep. They have won five consecutive doubles matches.
Flagler continued its dominance in singles play. The Saints won four-of-the-six matches in straight sets. Mercier, ranked No. 2, rolled to a 6-1, 6-2 win. Malis, ranked No. 60, cruised to a 6-3, 6-2 win over Antonio.
Makary Adamek clinched the match with his 6-3, 6-1 win over Rabetrano. Borlee, ranked No. 73, won his seventh consecutive match with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. No. 57 Lemken and No. 8 Denitto both went to a super tiebreak.
