GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Flagler College men's indoor track and field team competed at the Celebration Pointe Classic at the Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe on Friday and Saturday.
The Saints had entries in the 60m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile, 3000m, 5000m, 60m hurdles and 4x400m relay. As well as field entries in the shot put.
Three Saints finished all in a row in the 800-meter run with Kaleb Hollins finished in seventh, Luke Larkin in eighth and Brandon Knieja in ninth. Hollins' personal-best time of 1:54.52 ranks third in conference and fourth in the region. Larkin (1:54.55) and Knieja (1:54.92) both follow behind in both rankings, Larkin at fourth in conference and fifth in the region, and Knieja at fifth in conference and sixth in the region.
A group of five freshmen competed in the 200-meter run. Sam Adebonojo (23.18), Sam Hummer (23.25) and Ian Mcgrorty (23.41) finished 32nd, 34th and 37th respectively. Ryan Sen (23.81) and Christian McFarlane (24.05) placed 46th and 50th, to round out the top 50.
Malachi South placed 24th in the 400-meter run with a time of 52.05. He was followed by Logan Camara (52.71) in 30th and Xander Cunningham (52.90) in 31st. South's time ranks 14th in the conference.
Once again, Will Stone and Joel Nesi put on a good showing in the mile, with Stone placing fourth and Nesi in ninth. Stone put up a new personal-best time of 4:10.86 that is the fastest time in the conference so far this season, also ranking fifth in the region. Nesi's time of 4:15.44 ranks third in the conference and 12th in the region. Logan Burch followed them with a 19th place finish and a time of 4:27.58.
Dieumerci Ufitimana earned a personal-best time of 8:51.33 in the 3000-meter that gave him a 12th place finish. John Carbone finished in ninth with a time of 8:46.07.
In the 5000-meter, the Saints had two athletes compete and both finished in the top 20. Francisco Ramirez finished 15th with a time of 15:33.71 and Christian Fernandez finished in 17th with a time of 15:42.01.
Caden Vann earned a fifth place finish in the 60-meter hurdles final with a time of 8.56.
The Flagler 4x400 relay teams finished fourth and fifth. The team of Hollins, Knieja, Larkin and Stone earned fourth with a time of 3:27.68. The second team of Houston Harper, Camara, Cunningham and South finished fifth with a time of 3:32.19.
For the field events, Casey Wood earned third in the shot put with a 14.40m throw. His mark ranks him second in the conference and eleventh in the region. Jude Daly finished 15th with a mark of 11.67m.
The Saints split up and head to Allendale, Mich. for the GVSU Big Meet (Feb. 9-10) and back to Alachua County Sports Complex at Celebration Pointe for the Florida University Last Chance on Feb. 9.
