ST. AUGUSTINE–
Lexie Morton scored five goals and
Ella Pinder added four more as No. 9 (IWLCA Division II Top 25) Flagler College fell to No. 2 Florida Southern College 23-16 in a women's lacrosse game Wednesday evening at the Flagler Lacrosse Field.
The Saints now drop to 2-1 overall and the Mocs start their season 1-0.
Flagler trailed 15-12 in the third quarter, but goals from
Katelyn Trainor,
Jessica Wright, and Morton knotted the game at 15. Morton's goal was at a man-advantage for the Saints.
From there, Florida Southern scored the next seven goals to pull away.
The Saints started the game strong with four goals out of the gate, two of those came from Morton.
The Mocs answered back with three consecutive goals. The two continued to go back and forth until the Saints ended the first quarter with a 7-5 lead.
The Saints quickly lost their lead in the second quarter when the Mocs scored six consecutive goals to gain a 11-9 lead to end the first half.
The Saints still had some strong moments tonight with
Carly LaFerriere having eight draw controls and goalie Lauren Ribadeniera having five saves, two ground balls, and caused one turnover.
The Saints will be back on Feb. 16 at 7 p.m. in a home game against Lincoln Memorial University.
