ST. AUGUSTINE – No. 4 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College defeated Florida Southern College in a non-conference men's tennis match Saturday afternoon at the Pollard Tennis Center.
Flagler won it's third consecutive season opener. Florida Southern dropped to 0-2. The Saints head to Indianapolis, Indiana for the ITA Division II National Men's Tennis Indoor Championships, Feb. 16-18.
The Saints rolled in both doubles matches to secure the first team point.
Simon Malis and
Philipp Lemken defeated Chris Fok Kow and George Russell 6-2 while
Jacopo Denitto and
Max Berner rolled to a 6-0 win over Mario Garoz and Matteo Feggi. The other doubles match went unfinished.
Ilian Borlee, Malis, and
Makary Adamek all won in straight sets with Adamek's match being the clincher for the Saints. Mercier, the nation's top-ranked singles player, edged Fok Kow 6-4, 3-6, and 10-7.
