COLUMBUS, Ga. – Bree Ehmer scored in the 29
th minute and that's all No. 17 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Catawba College needed to defeat Flagler College in a 3-0 win in the first round of the NCAA Division II Women's Soccer Tournament Friday afternoon at the Walden Soccer Complex.
Catawba, the No. 4 seed, will advance to the second round. Flagler's season ends with an 8-4-6 overall record.
Ehmer headed in Lillie Rusher's corner kick for the first goal of the match. The ball was served towards the far-right post and Ehmer used all 5-foot-10-inches of her frame to get to the ball.
Alexah Fite added the insurance goal in the 41
st minute. She fired a shot from the left of the box and tucked the ball in the top right corner to stake the Catawba Indians to a 2-0 lead.
Morgan Delair added the final goal in the 52
nd minute as she booted in a scrum after a corner kick.
Callie Hammond and Ehmer led the team with three shots. All three of Ehmer's shots were on frame.
Andrea Fernandez finished with seven shots with two on frame for Flagler.
Ashley Hughes tallied four saves and recorded the shutout for Catawba.
Henley Grunst finished with four saves.
Catawba out-shot Flagler 14-11 and had a 10-0 advantage in corner kicks.
