MORROW, Ga. –
Luke Williams and
Marcus Hedemann each scored a goal and tallied an assist as Flagler College defeated the University of North Georgia 4-2 in a Peach Belt Conference Tournament semifinal match Friday night at Laker Field.
Flagler (11-4-3), the No. 3 seed, had lost both matches to North Georgia in the regular season, both by 2-1 margins. The Saints advance to the championship match on Sunday at 4 p.m. at No. 21 (United Soccer Coaches) Clayton State University. North Georgia (8-6-3), the No. 2 seed, will have to wait and see if it can snag an at-large berth to the super regional.
The score remained tied at 1-all until Williams' goal with 5:30 left on the clock. Hedemann played a long ball to Williams on a breakaway with two UNG defenders in chase. He buried the shot inside the right post.
Hedemann scored with 4:11 remaining in a similar fashion as Williams.
Sam Reynolds found Hedemann over the midfield line on a counterattack and had a one-on-one with the keeper to the left and the shot beat the keeper to the right corner of the goal.
Finally, with 3:28 left,
Gustav Moberg headed a ball over to
Reiss Skeen at the right of the midfield circle. Skeen lobbed a shot that found its way into the goal.
Joshua Fox scored the first goal of the match in the 34th minute.
Vukasin Lukovic and Jorge Sandoval scored for the Nighthawks.
Ryan Rivas had four saves for the Saints while Aleksa Lukic finished with three for North Georgia.
Flagler out-shot North Georgia 12-10, but the Nighthawks had a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
