Fernandez scores equalizer late

MORROW, Ga. – Andrea Fernandez scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season in Flagler College's 1-1 tie at Clayton State University in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Laker Field.

Flagler is now 4-2-4 overall and 2-2-3 in the Peach Belt. Clayton State is 7-1-4 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play. Flagler visits USC Beaufort on Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Bluffton, South Carolina.

Paige Churchill dribbled in to the top of the box, then spun and found Fernandez to her left, about 30 yards from the goal. Fernandez dribbled in a couple of yards and drilled a shot into the top right corner of the goal to knot the match at 1-all in the 84th minute.

Carrie Consolino put the Lakers on top with a goal in the 62nd minute.

Fernandez and Ella Gembicki each finished with four shots for Flagler. Presley Ancheta and Churchill added three more. Consolino had a team-high four shots for Clayton State.

Henley Grunst recorded six saves for Flagler while Trinity Chastain also finished with six for Clayton State.

The Saints out-shot the Lakers 18-12 and held an 8-4 edge in corner kicks.
