ST. AUGUSTINE -
Andrea Fernandez scored the equalizer in the 27
th minute for Flagler College but fell just short to No. 3 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Columbus State University 2-1 in a Peach Belt Conference women's soccer match this afternoon at Saints Field.
The Saints are now 3-2-3 for the overall and 1-2-2 in the Peach Belt. Columbus State advances to 9-0-1 overall and 3-0-0 in the conference. Flagler hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday at 5 p.m. at Saints Field. Today was the first home match for the Saints since Sept. 21.
Samantha St. Pierre intercepted a Columbus State pass and her deflection went right to Fernandez who charged ahead and scored one-on-one with the keeper.
Lauren Barnes secured the win for the Cougars by scoring in the 54
th minute with off a pass from Faith Knoedler at the left of the box and tapped the ball into the net.
Saints goalie Henley Grust had four saves before receiving a red card in the 33
rd minute, removing her from the game.
Madi Narducci took over for the Saints and made eight saves. Heidi Harris had two saves for the Cougars.
Columbus State out-shout Flagler 25-10 and held a 9-3 advantage with corner kicks.
