AMERICUS, Ga. –
Paul Hansen scored two goals as Flagler College played to a 2-2 draw at Georgia Southwestern State University in a Peach Belt Conference men's soccer match Wednesday night at Hurricane Field.
Flagler is now 1-4-3 overall this season and 1-2-1 in the Peach Belt. Georgia Southwestern moves to 2-3-2 overall and 0-1-2 in conference play.
His first goal of the match came in the 31
st minute, just 35 seconds after the Hurricanes took a 1-0 lead. Hansen was fouled at the top of the box and his free kick was tucked inside the right post to knot the score at 1-1.
The equalizer was scored in the 70
th minute when
Marc Birkelund stole the ball from a GSW player at midfield and dribbled down the right sideline, cut into the middle of the field to the top of the box and shuffled a pass to the right to a streaking Hansen who fired a shot over the keeper and into the back left portion of the goal.
The Saints had a penalty kick opportunity in the 85
th minute, but the shot was saved.
Ryan Rivas collected four saves for Flagler while Dagoberto Romero tallied two saves for Georgia Southwestern.
The Saints owned a 15-9 advantage in shots, but the Hurricanes held a slight 7-6 spread in corner kicks.
Flagler hosts the University of North Georgia on Saturday (Sept. 30) at 1 p.m. at Saints Field.
