SUMTER, S.C. – Flagler College's
Nadja Meier rolled through six matches to win the ITA Division II Southeast Regional singles title this afternoon at the Palmetto Tennis Center.
Meier continues the streak of Flagler regional champions as
Luisa Hrda won the last two singles titles. It was the fifth consecutive year a Flagler women's tennis player competed in the regional final in singles.
Meier, the No. 1 seed, defeated the University of North Georgia's Angelina Linnikova, a No. 7 seed, 6-4 and 6-3 in today's final. Last year, Meier lost to Hrda in the final in straight sets. Meier also defeated the No. 5 seed, Marianna Ramirez of Columbus State University, 6-1 and 6-0 in the quarterfinal round.
In doubles, Meier and
Dana Heimen reached the finals, but lost 1-6, 6-1, 11-9 to Ramirez and Nikoline Gullacksen of Columbus State. The tandem posted a 4-1 record in doubles.
Up next for Meier is a trip to the ITA Cup (Oct. 13-16) at the Rome (Ga.) Tennis Center. Meier participated at the ITA Cup last year as half of a doubles team with Heimen.
