ANDERSON, S.C. –
Paige Churchill erupted to score two goals and tally two assists to lead No. 15 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College to a 4-1 win at Anderson University in a non-conference women's soccer match Saturday afternoon at Spero Financial Field.
Flagler improved to 2-0 overall while Anderson dropped to 0-2.
Churchill's first collegiate goal came in the 24
th minute and was the first of three Flagler goals within four minutes of each other.
Jess Leach set up the goal by weaving through three defenders before shuffling a pass to Churchill at the top of the box and she buried the ball into the top corner of the goal.
The same combo teamed up for the next goal, but this time it was Leach finding the back of the net in the 26
th minute.
Churchill tallied her second assist when her through ball found a wide-open
Andrea Fernandez who gave the Saints a commanding 3-0 lead in the 28
th minute.
That score would hold at half time and just a little over five minutes into the second half, the Trojans got on the board when Meggie Powell scored an unassisted goal.
Arianna Silva fed Churchill for her second goal of the day in the 58
th minute.
Henley Grunst, a freshman from Anderson, made eight saves in her homecoming. Anderson used two different keepers as Victoria McGovern allowed three goals and recorded three saves before giving way to Arriel Frey, who had one save in the second half.
The Trojans out-shot the Saints 19-16 and each team had three corner kicks.
Flagler heads to Pensacola for a match on Friday against the University of West Florida.
