ST. AUGUSTINE – For the fifth time in the last nine matches, No. 10 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College and Columbus State University played to a draw, this time a scoreless draw, in a mutual Peach Belt Conference women's soccer opener Saturday afternoon at Saints Field.
Flagler is now 3-0-2 overall. The Saints are 5-1-5 in the last 11 meetings with the Lady Cougars. Columbus State is now 1-3-1 this season. These two teams have played for the conference tournament title the last three years and the Saints have won all three matches.
Henley Grunst recorded her third shutout of the season as she made two saves for Flagler. Lizzie Hedrick finished with three saves for Columbus State.
The Lady Cougars outshot the Saints 15-7 and had a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks. Fouls were nearly evenly distributed with Columbus State being called for 11 while Flagler had 10.
Flagler hits the road for the next two matches starting with Wednesday's (Sept. 20) contest at USC Aiken at 4 p.m.
