Flagler women open season with 3-0 win

GAFFNEY, S.C. – No. 15 (United Soccer Coaches Division II Top 25) Flagler College opened the season with a 3-0 victory at Limestone University in a non-conference women's soccer match at Saints Field Thursday afternoon.

This was the seventh consecutive season-opening victory for Flagler.

Flagler wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard. In the third minute, Andrea Fernandez received a one-touch pass and tapped the ball over to Paige Churchill at the top of the box. Churchill then booted the ball to her right to a streaking Samantha St. Pierre for the first goal.

The score remained the same at the half, but Moa Arlebo scored her first goal of the season in the 54th minute, off a Jess Leach pass. Eilidh McHattie netted her second career goal for the Crimson & Gold in the 82nd minute. Mikayla Lambert assisted on her goal.

Henley Grunst turned in a clean sheet in her collegiate debut. She corralled three saves. Samantha Aguilar-Hop recorded six saves for Limestone.

Anae Malbete and Emma Dufresne each took two shots for Limestone. Both of Malbete's were on frame.

Flagler out-shot Limestone 19-6 while Limestone had a 4-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Up next for Flagler is Anderson University, this Saturday at 1 p.m. at Spero Financial Field in Anderson, South Carolina.
