INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Flagler College men's tennis team was seeded No. 6 in the NCAA Division II National Championship, which begins May 11 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando, Florida.
Flagler (18-6) opens the Round of 16 next Thursday (May 11) at 4 p.m. against No. 11 seed Azusa Pacific University (18-6). The winner advances to take on the winner of the No. 3 University of Indianapolis-No. 14 Jefferson University match. That national quarterfinal will be played May 12 at 7 p.m.
Even though the two schools are nearly 2,500 miles apart from each other, they do have a history. Flagler has won two-of-the-three matches, including splitting a pair at the Flagler Tennis Center in 2018 and 2019. The last time they played was on March 7, 2020, at Columbus, Georgia and the Saints won, 4-3.
Flagler won both of its matches in the NCAA Division II Southeast Region No. 2. The Saints blanked Tusculum University 4-0 before downing Wingate University 4-1 in a match that had to be played over two days due to rain. Flagler has won eight-of-its-last-nine matches.
Azusa Pacific won its only match the NCAA Division II West Region as it defeated Concordia University Irvine, 4-2. The Cougars went undefeated in the Pacific West Conference Tournament, which included knocking off top-seeded Hawai'i Pacific University 4-0 in the final.
