ST. AUGUSTINE –No. 8 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College defeated No. 14 Wingate University 4-1 in the final match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region No. 2 tournament Sunday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center. The match was suspended yesterday due to rain and completed today.
Flagler improved to 18-6 and advanced to the NCAA Division II National Championship Round of 16 for the second consecutive season. Flagler will find out who they play on Wednesday when the teams get seeded. Wingate's season concludes with a 21-3 record.
The doubles were completed on Saturday and Wingate was able to take the point with a pair of wins.
The majority of the singles matches had the first set completed on Saturday, and several of those had started play in the second set when the match was suspended.
No. 30
Nikita Tatyanin rolled to a straight-sets win over No. 34 Florian Walcher, 6-1 and 6-4. That improved his record against nationally ranked players to 5-6.
Jacopo Denitto followed with a win at No. 2.
Petr Cervinka extended his winning streak to 11 in a row with a 6-1, 7-6(7) victory over Edis Nokic.
Philipp Lemken's win at No. 4 singles clinched the match.
