Flagler’s Morton, Pinder, and Kelam receive top awards from GSC

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Flagler College's Lexie Morton and Ella Pinder were selected as the Gulf South Conference's Player and Freshman of the Year while Grant Kelam took home GSC Coach of the Year honors as announced this afternoon by conference officials. The Saints led the way with eight all-conference selections.

Morton, a redshirt senior from Milton, Georgia leads the Saints with 62 goals and 74 points. She also leads the team with 22 free-position goals and has 22 ground balls as well as 12 caused turnovers. Morton has been named GSC Player of the Week five times this season.

Pinder has scored 24 goals and tallied 11 assists in her first collegiate season. The Millington, Maryland native has a team-high 62 draw controls, 12 ground balls, and has 10 free-position goals. She was named the GSC Freshman of the Week on three different occasions this year.

All Grant Kelam has done so far is build a program that did not exist three years ago into a top 10 program. He has the Saints ranked No. 10 and the team went through league play unscathed to earn its first GSC regular season title. Kelam has guided the Saints to a 3-1 record against nationally ranked foes. 

Joining Morton and Pinder on the All-GSC first team were Jenn Seebach and Lauren Ribadeneira. Seebach, a defender from Manorville, New York, has 31 ground balls and 28 caused turnovers. She was named GSC Defender of the Week twice. Ribadeneira, a goalie from Phoenix, Arizona, has 94 saves and a 9.51 goals-against average.

On the second team were Carley Tepel, Jessica Wright, Katelyn Trainor, and Kenzie Dillon. Tepel has scored 39 goals and has collected 19 ground balls as well as causing seven turnovers. She was named player and freshman of the week once this year. Wright has scored 29 goals and tallied 11 assists. She was named freshman of the week twice. Trainor has scored 32 goals and has 40 draw controls. Dillon has 15 ground balls and 15 caused turnovers.

Flagler opens the GSC Tournament tomorrow against Lee University at 11 a.m. in the first semifinal game.
