COLUMBUS, Ga. – No. 3 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Columbus State University edged No. 8 Flagler College in the championship match of the Peach Belt Conference Men's Tennis Tournament Sunday morning at the John W. Walden Tennis Center.
Columbus State improved to 16-4 and received the conference's automatic berth to the NCAA regional round. Flagler is now 16-6 and is projected to receive one of the at-large berths to the regional round. The men's selection show will be tomorrow at 8 p.m. on ncaa.com.
The Cougars, playing on their home court, won both doubles matches 6-3 to take an early 1-0 lead in the match.
The Saints trailed 3-0 when
Pavlos Parson won his match at No. 5 singles 7-6(2) and 6-2.
But top-ranked singles player Santiago Perez bested No. 27
Nikita Tatyanin 4-6, 6-0, 6-1 at No. 1 to clinch the match.
Parson and
Philipp Lemken were selected as the PBC Tournament's Doubles MVP.
