ST. AUGUSTINE –No. 8 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College defeated No. 30 Tusculum University 4-0 in the first match of the NCAA Division II Southeast Region No. 2 tournament Friday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Flagler improved to 17-6 and advance to face No. 14 Wingate on Sunday at 2 p.m. The winner goes on to play in the NCAA Division II National Tournament Round of 16, which starts on May 11 at the USTA National Tennis Center in Orlando. Tusculum's season ends at 17-7.
The Saints won both doubles 6-2 to claim the team point to start the day.
Flagler kept it rolling in singles play as
Petr Cervinka won his 10
th match in a row with a straight-sets (6-0, 6-1) win over Kenta Kondou.
Nikita Tatyanin, ranked No. 30 in the nation, triumphed over Rhodri Atkinson 6-2, 6-4.
Fernando Bulnes clinched the match with his 6-4, 6-4 win at No. 6.
