COLUMBUS, Ga. – The No. 5 (ITA Division II Collegiate Tennis Rankings) Flagler College women's tennis team blanked No. 30 Columbus State University in a Peach Belt Conference Women's Tennis Tournament semifinal match at the John W. Walden Tennis Center Saturday afternoon.
Flagler improved to 18-4 overall and advances to the tournament final for the third year in a row. The Saints will take on No. 12 University of North Georgia at 1 p.m. Columbus State is now 13-6 and will wait to see if it earns one of the four at-large berths for the regional tournament.
The No. 24-ranked doubles team of
Luisa Hrda and
Dana Heimen won their fifth consecutive match, but the Lady Cougars won No. 2 doubles. The doubles point came down to the match between Flagler's
Nadja Meier/
Florencia Massardo Brain and Columbus State's Agostina Bigotti/Inma Ramon. Meier and Massardo Brain came out on top, 6-3.
The Saints cruised through singles play winning all three in straight sets. Meier, ranked No. 6 in the country, extended her winning streak to 26 matches while
Laura Jipescu and Heimen, ranked No. 63, also won.
