ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. – Lee University edged No. 4 (ITA Collegiate Division II rankings) Flagler College 4-3 in a non-conference men's tennis match Tuesday afternoon at the Flagler Tennis Center.
Lee remains undefeated at 9-0 while Flagler is now 5-4.
With the team match tied at 3-all, it came down to the No. 5 singles contest between
Fernando Bulnes and Quinn Groenendijk. The first set went to Groenendijk, but Bulnes came back to take the second set 7-5. However, Groenendijk won the third set, 6-4, to win the match for the Flames.
Lee took an early 1-0 lead after earning the doubles point.
Petr Cervinka and
Jacopo Denitto won at No. 3 doubles.
Philipp Lemken tied the score at 1-all after a straight sets win at No. 4. Cervinka's win at No. 3 singles tied the score at 2-all and Denitto's win at No. 2 tied the match at 3.
Up next for the Saints is Tusculum University on Thursday (March 9) at 2 p.m. at the Flagler Tennis Center.
